Obituary for Elbert A. Steinsieck

Elbert A. Steinsieck, age 86, of Golconda, IL passed away Thursday, April 14, 2016 at Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Metropolis, IL.
He was born to Albert and Nora (Altoff) Steinsieck on November 2, 1929 in Waterloo, IL. He retired from the United States Air Force after 26 years where he specialized as a weather observer technician. During Elbert’s time in the service he toured France, Germany and Vietnam while receiving the Vietnam service medal, Expeditionary medal and achieved Master Sergeant.  Elbert was on the Shawnee Development Council Board, Assistant Manager of the Billeting on Scott Air Force Base, member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and Air Force Sergeant Association. Along with spending time with the family, Elbert loved to read and playing with his two dogs and two cats.
Elbert is survived by his wife, Darlene Steinsieck of Golconda, IL; step-son, Chuck (Angie) Nicol of Golconda, IL; sisters, Ruby (Roland) Muench  of Waterloo, IL, Jo Ann Yarborgh of Red Bud, IL; three grandchildren, Christina (Sean Cavan) Willard, Michael (Jess) Willard, Kimberly Willard; two great grandchildren, Lauran Willard, Gavis Willard; numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Erna Steinsieck; one daughter, Evelyn Willard-Parton.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church located in Golconda, IL. Pastor Benjamin Holt will be conducting the service. Inurnment will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery in the Rock Community, Pope County, IL. Military Funeral Honors will be conducted by VFW Post 9227, American Legion Post 719 and Scott Air Force Base Honor Guard.
Arrangements are under the care of Aly Funeral Home in Eddyville, Illinois.
