Obituary for Roy Edward "Bud" Gard

Roy Edward “Bud” Gard, age 68, of Rosiclare, IL , formally of Lawrenceville, Illinois, passed away on August 27, 2019 at his home.

He was born May 1, 1951 in Princeton, IN to Edward Ross and Peggy Lou (Sweeten) Gard. Roy was a U.S. Navy veteran and served in Vietnam. After serving his country, Roy worked for his grandfather as a heavy equipment operator at Sweeten Tractor Service in Sullivan, IN and later worked construction with his dad and brothers at William E Fahr, General Contractor in Lawrenceville, IL.

Roy was a member of Moose Lodge 281 in Vincennes, Indiana and the VFW post 2244 of Lawrenceville, Illinois.

Mr. Roy, as he was known by many, never met a stranger and was a true friend to everyone. In his prime, Roy was an avid pool player, enjoyed golfing with his buddies, fishing, dancing and was always happy to find a good Texas Hold'em poker game. In his later life, Roy enjoyed knife collecting, leather working and spending time with family.

Roy was preceded in death by his father, Edward Ross Gard; mother Peggy Lou Fahr, and brother, Terry Ross Gard.

Roy is survived by a daughter, Stacy Jo (Ronnie) Williams of Elizabethtown, IL; two sons, Quincy Michael Gard-Lyttle, Caleb Ross Gard-Lyttle of Sullivan, In; one grandson, Curtis Lowe (Shania) Thacker of Bridgeport, IL; two great grandchildren, Eastyn Micheal Thacker and Vidalia Rae Thacker of Bridgeport, IL; Dad, William E Fahr (Penny) of Lawrenceville, IL; sister Lou Ellen (Brian) Bean of Lawrenceville, IL; brother William E. (Susan) Fahr II of Sarasota, FL; sister Cindy Ann (Phillip) Thacker of Sumner, IL; lifetime best friend, Ernest “Junior” “June Bug” Griffin of Lawrenceville, IL; his beloved cat, Tinker and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Gard had been cremated per his wishes.

A memorial service will be held on September 13th 2019 at 2pm in May Chapel cemetery in Lawrenceville, IL.
