Obituary for Edward "Pat" O Connor

Edward Patrick O’Connor Edward Patrick O’Connor, age 67, passed away on November 5th, 2018 at home at Creal Springs, Illinois. “Pat, ” as he was usually called, was born October 26, 1951 in Pontiac, Michigan to the late Albert Patrick and Mildred Inez (Goodman) O’Connor. He is survived by his wife, Linda O’Connor; two step-daughters, Nicole Sheldon, Melinda Smith; five step-grandchildren, Brittiany Mitchell, Damein Pomatto, Samantha Thrasher, Patton Hodge, Kendra Hodge; six step-great-grandchildren; brother, William Carr; sister, Martha Ruth O Connor; nephew and niece James and Lilia Carr; grand-niece Chloe Carr; and cousin Margie (O’Connor) Moses. Pat grew up at White Lake, Michigan and attended the Huron Valley School System (schools at White Lake, Highland, and Milford, MI). Naturally mechanically inclined, after graduating from Milford High School, Pat joined his brother in the Far East and worked out of Singapore, first as an apprentice engineer, and later chief engineer, on offshore oil-field supply and survey vessels and on an oil-field helicopter service barge in Borneo. During his time in Southeast Asia Pat worked for Offshore Logistics, Sea Mar International, and Western Geophysical. After leaving the environs of Singapore and Indonesia, he spent time in Thailand and Guam, and later the Philippines. When he returned to the states, he resumed employment as a mechanic and engineer with Western Geophysical in Galveston, Texas, both ashore and afloat. Pat moved to Southern Illinois in the 1980s where he eventually met and married his wife Linda Sue Sheldon on August 11th, 1990. Pat attended a couple semesters at the forestry school at Southeaster Illinois College and later the truck driving/course offered there. After he received his commercial driver’s license, he worked several years as an over-the-road trucker. When home, Pat spent a considerable amount of time repairing or tinkering with something in his shop or yard. He was also always ready to lend a hand to friends and neighbors. Aside from his mechanic skills, he loved to cook, both in the kitchen and outside over a grill. He also loved to fish and (in 2008), he and Linda purchased a home near the shores of the Lake of Egypt (along with a john boat and a pontoon boat) where they spent many hours doing what they both loved most – fishing. Pat was cremated and a celebration of life when announced by his family.
