Obituary for Walter Halter
Walter Halter, age 84, of Golconda, IL passed away January 2, 2018 at Baptist Health in Paducah, KY.
He was born December 5, 1933 to the late Antoine Ezra and Lillian (Treute) Halter in North Dakota.
Walter worked at International Union of Operating Engineers Local 318 as a crane operator building bridges that included the Brookport Bridge and Smithland Lock & Dam. He was an ARMY veteran, farmer and an IUOE 318 Lifelong Member for 55 years. Walter enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, spending time on the river putting out trout lines, hunting, eating game, gardening and helping neighbors. He could fix almost anything with his mechanical skills and liked to restore Farmall tractors.
Walter is survived by two daughters, Debby Hines of Eldorado, IL, Susan (JP) Vaughn of Louisville, KY; step-son, Mark Duncan; grandsons, David Hines, John Vaughn, Dan Duncan, Ryan Duncan, niece, Tammy Perkinson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Barbara (Wardrop) Halter and Shirley (Schuchardt) Halter; sister, Cathy Perkinson.
Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Friday, January 5, 2018 at Aly Funeral Home in Eddyville, IL. Service will be conducted by Brother Kevin Richerson. Interment will follow at Glendale Cemetery in Simpson, IL were military rites will be given by Golconda VFW Post 9227 and the ARMY National Guard. Visitation for public will be from 1:00 pm until time of service at funeral home.
