Dr. Samie Jay Wooldridge, Sr. entered into eternal rest on December 25, 2021, surrounded by devoted wife and family.
Dr. Samie Jay Wooldridge Sr. was born on November 12, 1945, in Alton, Illinois to the late James Glenn and Lena “Gertrude” Wooldridge, the youngest of six children.
He was married to the love of his life, Heloris Rose Butler Wooldridge on February 4, 1967, in Golconda, Illinois. Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years. Heloris Rose Wooldridge, their two sons Samie J Wooldridge Jr. of Florida and James Wayne Wooldridge and his wife, Shelly of West Virginia, three sisters; Claudette (Jim) Apperson, Judiann Miller of Alabama, Sue Gustine of Ohio and one sister-in-law, Caroline (McGuire) Wooldridge-Trammel of Brighton, IL, along with several nieces and nephews.
He was a United States Navy Veteran. In 1980, Sam received his MA Degree from Hyles Anderson College Crown Point, Indiana and he attended Uniontown College, Uniontown, Pennsylvania and graduated with his Doctor of Divinity.
Samie Jay Sr. will be sorely missed, and we will cherish every memory of him. God called Sam to serve several small churches throughout his many years of ministry. He felt fortunate to have ministered to so many.
Dr. of Divinity, Samie Jay Wooldridge Sr., loved the word of God and had a passion and fervor for sharing it with others throughout his pastoral leadership. Pastor Wooldridge enjoyed meeting new people and could talk to anyone using his quick wit and humorous stories. Sam enjoyed reading and studying scripture in addition to working on the farm with his brother-in-law, Donald Butler, and canoeing with his brother-in-law Roger Sandefur. Sam delighted in helping family in any way he could. He was a proud father of his two sons “Jaybird” and “Jimbo’ and an adoring husband to his Rose, the light of his life.
In addition to his parents, Samie was preceded in death by two siblings: one brother, Jerome Wooldridge, and one sister, June Funkhouser.
