Obituary for Jeannie Cole

Vera Imogene “Jeannie” Cole, age 93 of rural Golconda, Illinois passed away on September 16, 2021, at Metropolis Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Metropolis, Illinois.

She was born in Marion, Illinois on August 4, 1928, to the late William Claude and Cecil Corey (McDowell) Choate. Her passion for horses began at a young age. Horse shows at the fairgrounds where her horsemanship won her many blue ribbons. It was at the same fairgrounds where she caught the eye of an aspirus young jockey Eddie Cole.
They were soon married and for 63 years they shared a life around the Thoroughbred Racing Industry and raised three daughters on their horse farm near Golconda, IL. Jeannie was a pioneer among women at a time when women were breaking the mold or role.

Jeannie is survived by her daughters, Carol Lane (Bart), Belinda Cole, Sue Cole (Candace Ball); grandchildren, Bronwyn Aly, Ryan Talbert (Melanie), WM Zach Parker; great grandchildren, Riley Talbert, Jackson Talbert, Ella Aly, Merrick Aly; sisters-in-law, Sharon Boyd (Paul), Brenda DeLaurentis (Nick); nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Cole; two siblings; daughter-in-law, Peggy Igleheart.

Private services will be held. Pastor Cheri Roan will conduct the service. Interment will be at the Lindale Memorial Gardens in Eldorado, Illinois
