Obituary for Terrie Redwine

Terrie Lee Redwine, nee Potts, devoted wife and mother, went to rest with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 9, 2020.

Terrie was born in 1946 to the late Guy and Jeanette Potts. She grew up in Ohio, Illinois and then attended the Luthern Hospital School of Nursing in Molene, IL earning her RN in 1967. After a brief time at Dixon State Hospital, Terrie joined the nursing staff at Harrisburg Medical Center where she proudly cared for countless patients over 25 years. In her later years, Terrie loved to reminisce about her nursing career. She was proud of having been the only RN on shift for the entire hospital “in the early years” and for her work establishing the hospital’s small four-bed ICU (which didn’t even have toilets in the beginning). Her family recalls numerous people meeting them on the street and thanking her for the extraordinary care she provided to their loved one in a time of need. Terrie was a nurse at heart until the day she died. She was always happier when she had someone else to worry about and take care of.

Terrie met the love of her life, Derral on a blind date on Feb 14, 1970 and they were married 2 months later. Although many said they would never make it, they enjoyed over 50 years of matrimony. Together they raised 8 children, explored the country on Derral’s bus after her retirement, and shared countless cherished moments with family and friends. She was blessed to have him by her side when she left this earth.

Terrie was a proud member of the Dorrisville Baptist Church even after she was no longer able to attend in person. She lived out her faith daily and enjoyed serving in the church nursery, Clothes Closet, and the local food bank. She was an avid prayer and eagerly awaited the weekly church newsletter so that she could add those in need to her daily conversations with God.

While Terrie will be remembered for many things such as her love for frozen coke and dessert, her extensive china doll collection, and her unrivaled driving skills (particularly in reverse), she will be remembered most for her welcoming personality and devotion to her family. Terrie never met a stranger and was happy to have the whole neighborhood sleeping on the living room floor. She was quick to start up a conversation with anyone who would listen, and she loved complimenting everyone she encountered just to see them smile. Her heart had a special place for babies and children. Raising and caring for her multitude of children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren was her greatest accomplishment.

Terrie is survived by her husband Derral Redwine (Boise, ID); daughters Dianna Hoopengardner (Jim; Davisburg, MI), Nancy Redwine (Herrin, IL), DeeDee Redwine (Harrisburg, IL), and Nena Sherrod (Chris; Golconda, IL); sons John David Redwine, Derral Redwine (Jamie; Paducah, KY), William Redwine (Karen; Boise, ID), and Lyndol Redwine (Taunya; Clinton, KY); sister Lynda Shugar (Colorado Spring, CO) and brother Max Potts (Leslie; Tampa, FL) along with 23 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at Aly Funeral Home in Eddyville, IL. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. till the time of service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Eddyville Cemetery in Eddyville, IL
