Obituary for Ruth Ellen Randolph
Ruth Ellen Randolph, age 94, of Eddyville, IL passed away March 31, 2022, at Metropolis Rehabilitation and Health Care in Metropolis, IL.
Ruth Ellen Voyles was born October 29, 1927, in Winona, MO to Jackson and Janice Voyles. After high school graduation she worked in St. Louis at a pecan and then a box factory. She moved back to Winona and worked at Browns Cap Factory.
She met Edward Rue Cunningham in Winona when he was stationed there with the United States Forest Service. They married on November 11, 1950. The young family moved to Eddyville, IL in 1957 when he was promoted to Road Foreman with the USFS. They were married 24 years when Rue died in March 1975.
She married again in October 1993 to Lindy “Diz” Randolph. When he died in 1995, she and her children continued to live in Eddyville.
Ruth was involved in many things in her lifetime. She was a member of the Pope County Homemakers for 50 years, including time spent as a board member. She was an active member of the Senior Citizen’s Council in Golconda and managed the Eddyville Senior Center. She was very involved in the annual Eddyville 4th of July Celebration, serving as a board member. She was a member of the Eddyville United Church.
Her greatest pleasure was her grandchildren. She loved to bowl, read, quilt and flower garden. She loved to travel with her 2 sisters on Virginia Gray Tours. She enjoyed eating out on the weekend with her friends. She loved to help others. Last but not least, she was a huge St. Louis Cardinal fan and would go to as many games as her son Bob would take her to.
She is survived by 3 children; Bob Clay of Eddyville, Marilyn Faulkner of Dixon Springs, Edward (Karla) Cunningham of Eddyville. She has 2 surviving sisters, Joann Wilken of Madison, IL and Trudy Webb of Mountain View, MO, 1 surviving sister-in-law Cora Voyles of Winona. Her grandchildren are Tammy (Dewayne) Hill, Bobby Clay, Allen Clay, Nick Clay, Jennifer (Adam) Broadway, Teresa (DJ) Dunning, Ethan Cunningham, Ron (Susan) Cunningham Jr., Troy (Connie Richards) Cunningham, and Aaron Cunningham. Her great-grandchildren are Cameron, Eli & Darlene Hill, Keely and Karsyn Clay, Bradley (Taylor) Clay, Tyler Clay, Zayne Clay, Brantley and Brynley Broadway, Kendra, Kala, Courtney, Tara Cunningham. She has 2 great great grandchildren, Marlee and Tavia Clay, plus many nieces and nephews.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, husbands Rue Cunningham and Diz Randolph, 2 step children Sharon Todd and Ronnie Cunningham, 1 great grandson Jordan Hill, 3 daughters-in-law Ruthann Cunningham, Angie Robbins and Mollie Cunningham and son-in-law Allan Faulkner, 2 sisters Lilly (Louie) Hall, Betti (Lloyd) Brown, 2 brothers Harvey Voyles and Buddy Voyles.
Funeral service will be 1:00 pm on Sunday, April 3, 2022 at Aly Funeral Home in Eddyville, IL. Pastor Michael Shearer will conduct the service. Burial will follow in the New Home Cemetery near Eddyville. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until time of service on Sunday at the funeral home.
