Obituary for Richard (Dick) Lewis Webb

Richard (Dick) Lewis Webb, age 76 of Tanglefoot Ranch passed away on June 2, 2021, at Herrin Hospital in Herrin, Illinois.

He was born on January 5, 1945, to Robert Johnson Webb and Verna (Bowie) Webb. He grew up on Dixon Springs Ag Center, where his dad was superintendent. Richard attended Robbs and Golconda Grade schools. He spent two years in India (1959-1961), family lived there while his dad helped set up research farm at a new India university. Graduated Pope County High School in 1965. Joined the US Navy 1965-1969. Served on aircraft carrier USS Ticonderoga during the Vietnam War. After returning home he attended and graduated from Southeastern Illinois College. Worked briefly for Fruit Belt Service. In 1972, he began full time work at family farm, Tanglefoot Ranch, and worked there until his death. In later years he worked less but was always there when needed.

Richard was a man of faith in his Lord Jesus Christ. He was baptized in 1955. He joined Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in 1974 and was a faithful member of Pope-Hardin 4-H Federation. He was a member of Pope-Hardin Farm Bureau. He always enjoyed attending the reunions of his crewmates of the Ticonderoga, which are held annually at various locations around the country.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepmother Kay Durfee Webb. He was also preceded in death by a brother, James Robert Webb.

He is survived by his brother, Grover Webb (wife Shirley) of Tanglefoot Ranch, nieces, Julie Webb of Mt. Vernon, and Ginger Nicholson (Carl) of Metropolis, and a nephew, James Webb (Becky) of Naperville, IL. He has eight great nieces and nephews: Keeton Reynolds (Hannah) of Metropolis, Kaleb Nicholson of Metropolis, Mitchell Nicholson of Metropolis, Abigail Webb of Naperville, Carlee Nicholson of Metropolis, Jackson Webb of Naperville, Jada Webb of Mt. Vernon, and Isaac Webb of Naperville. He is also survived by a stepsister Dana Durfee Reilly (Joe) Mill Valley, CA., and a step niece Kristin Burt (Dan) of New York and step grandniece Gracie Burt of New York.

Richard never married nor had children of his own, but he loved his nieces and nephews as his own. He had many, many friends which he really enjoyed visiting. Richard never met a stranger and always had a positive outlook.

Memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday June 12, 2021, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Golconda, IL. Military Honors will follow the service. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until time of the service at the church.
