Obituary for Ray Lane

Ray Lane went home to be with the Lord, Friday, September 14. We have truly lost a wonderful man. He passed away unexpectedly at the Metropolis Nursing and Rehab facility in Metropolis, Illinois. He was born April 11, 1946, Fairbury Hospital the son of Seth and Naomi Lane of Piper City, Illinois.
Ray graduated from Piper City Community High School, class of 1964. Following graduation, we worked at Magnabox in Champaign, Illinois until he enlisted in the Air Force in 1966. After basic and school he was stationed Mather Air Force base in Rancho Cordova, CA for 3 ½ years.
Ray married his High School sweetheart, Debbie Tewell, April 3, 1966. They spent 52 wonderful years together. In addition to his parents and his in-laws, he was preceded in death by his son Matt. Surviving in addition to his wife, Debbie Lane, are his beloved son Tony Lane and his wife Andrea, of Piper City, Illinois. Three grandchildren Raele Lane, Carson Lane, and Hayden Lane, 2 brothers William Lane of Madison, WI. and Stephen Lane of Naples, FL, a sister in-law Mary and Harry Johnson of Dwight, Il. and a brother in-law Richard Tewell and Glenn Adden, of Champaign, Il. Nine nieces and nephews and 15 ½ great nieces and nephews, dear friend Schott Shales as well as many other long dear friends.
Ray was such a kind and generous man. He leaves behind many good friends. Everyone that knew him loved him. He loved his wife, sons, daughter in-law and grandkids more than they will ever know. He enjoyed all his fishing trips with companies that he worked for or his friends, but the highlights of his life tip was the bear trip to Canada with two sons and the two trips to Reel Foot Lake with Tony, Hayden and Scott. Of course the annual deer hunt with the boys on the Wagner farm. He also enjoyed every summer when the grandchildren would come down to spend 10 days with us. He loved taking them places and watching them have fun.
There will be a visitation on Monday, September 17th from 9-11 and memorial service at 11:00 in the Golconda United Methodist Church. There will be another visitation on Thursday, September 20 from 9-11 and funeral at 11 at the Piper City, Illinois United Methodist Church with burial following the services at Brenton Cemetery in Piper City, Illinois. Those who wish to remember Ray in a special way may make donations in his memory to Diabetes Foundation, American Foundation For Suicide Prevention, or to the family.
