Obituary for Phyllis Hemphill
Phyllis Lee (Horstman) Hemphill departed life on November 19, 2014 at her home near Rosebud, Illinois. At the time of her passing she had attained the age of 76 years, 2 months and 5 days.
Phyllis was born in rural Massac County Illinois, on September 14, 1938, daughter of the late Carl Lee and Leona Horstman.
She married Jack Hemphill on November 25, 1954 at the Dixon Springs Church of Christ, Dixon Springs, Illinois. They were the first couple to be married there. He preceded her in death in 2006.
Survivors include her sons, James and Robin Hemphill of Grantsburg, IL, Charles and Angelina Hemphill of Rosebud, William and Sunny Hemphill of Florence, MT, Michael and Jamie Hemphill of Tualatin, OR; daughter, Angela Robbins and Bob Clay of Eddyville, IL; daughter-in-law, Kathy Hemphill of Auburn, WA; brother, Lindell (and Carroll) Horstman of Brookport, IL; sister Carla Snyder and companion; seven grandchildren, Tonya Shannon, Kemberly Robbins, Michael Robbins, Kristen Hemphill, Patricia Dotson, Erin Lehman, Jessica Hemphill; eleven great grandchildren, Taylor Robbins, Trenton Huston, Tanner Huston, Terrin Reed, Tristan Reed, Kaylee Robbins, Briley Lehman, Timothy Napier, James Dyer, Tashia Dyer, Parker Hemphill; two great great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, June and Ned Jeffords, Jerry Reynolds, Joyce and Richard Slankard; as well as a multitude of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Phyllis was preceded in death by her son, David Hemphill of Auburn, WA.
She was a member of the Lone Oak Church of Christ in Paducah, KY. In addition to being a homemaker and mother, Phyllis had been employed by the Joliet Army Ammunition Plant. She was later employed as a dispatcher for the Pope County Sheriff’s Department and drove a bus for two generations of students in the Pope County School District. Phyllis never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand to everyone. She was a great cook, famous in her family for her fried chicken, dressing and home-made pickles.

Funeral service will be 1:00pm Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at Aly Funeral Home in Eddyville, IL.
Interment will follow at the Roland Cemetery in Dixon Springs, IL.
Visitation will be from 6-9pm on Monday, November 24, 2014 at Aly Funeral Home in Eddyville, IL.
