Obituary for Nancy L. Bridges-Mickelson

Preface: I want everyone to know that I go from this earth believing that I was loved – and blessed by the true friendship of many. The life I led, be it right, be it wrong; screwed up at times; on top of the world at others… The life I led, the things that happened, the people who came and went, the friends, lovers and foes… all those things brought me to where I was and that place was a very happy place. Life is good.
Nancy L. Bridges-Mickelson was born October 30, 1962 in San Diego, California to Charles R. Bridges (deceased) and Louise Peeples Burkhart who survives. From there she spent time as a child in South Texas and Western Kentucky. In 1975, she moved to Golconda when her mother married her other father, Donald D. “D.D” Burkhart, who survives. Nancy came to love Pope County and even though work took her away at times, she always returned.
On December 28, 1991, Nancy married her best friend and partner, Allan Mickelson, who survives. Together they shared a wonderful life and special relationship that many are never blessed to experience.
Nancy was involved in Republican politics for a great deal of her life along with several positions in state government; however, it was not until Governor George H. Ryan appointed her to the Prisoner Review Board that she found her niche and made her most proud career accomplishments. Nancy served on the Board from 2000 to 2011. The job and the people she worked with brought her great personal pride and lasting relationships.
Nancy lived with Al on a hill north of Golconda with seven wonderful canine companions: Turner, Gus, Molly, Lori, Ida and Crockett and Nancy’s very special horse, B.K.
Other survivors include: Godchildren, Kate and Meg Wiseman. Special Friend, Marnie Rawles. Extended family: Scott and Michelle Wiseman; Brad and Teri Gentry; Roy and JoAnn Xanders; Glenn, Kathy, Karli and Madi Cowsert. Special kids: Maggie Broadway, Corey Rison and Zack and Erin Overstreet. Aunt Jeanne and Uncle Richard Fuggitti, Uncle Steve and Ginger Peeple. Step-brothers and their families: Clay and Paula Burkhart, Dustin and Caleb; Gene and Patti Burkhart and Jason. Step Children and their families: Stacy and James Green and Amanda; Scott and Mary Mickleson; Brett Mickelson. Nancy was preceded in death by her Grandparents, Jim and Clyde Peeples and Oren and Eva Burkhart and her beloved Uncle, Jim Peeples.
A celebration of life and friendship will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. on Al and Nancy’s hill. Dress casually, “Life is Good” shirt is encouraged, and bring a dish to pass. Nancy loved to have people at “her table” and requested that her service be a celebration for everyone to visit, eat, drink, watch the campfire, listen to good music, share memories, revitalize friendships, make new friendships and realize that “life is good”.
M*A*S*H 62938 was a very important group to Nancy and she requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to that group. M*A*S*H 62938 PO Box 673, Golconda, IL 62938
