Obituary for Murrell Elmer Hazel
Murrell Elmer Hazel, age 93, of Eddyville, IL passed away on March 6, 2015 at his residence in Eddyville, IL.  He was born on March 22, 1921 to the late William Elmer and Eula Augusta (Isaac) Hazel in Benton, IL. He married Maxine Clay on March 4, 1943 in Oklahoma City, OK; she preceded him in death on September 22, 1997.  Murrell was a member of the United Methodist Church in Eddyville, IL. He was a WWII veteran and served in the United States Army Air Force from 1942 - 1945. Murrell was a very active member of the Order of Eastern Star Eddyville #1007 for 67 years, Stonefort Order of Eastern Stars #31, Eddyville Masonic Lodge #672 AF & AM for 69 years, and the American Legion Post #719.  Murrell was an ordained minister having pastored in Pocahontas, Johnsonville, Ellis Grove and Sumner.  Murrell is survived by his children; son, Wayne Hazel of Simpson, IL; daughters, Ellen (David) Hill of Simpson, IL, Susan (Murray) Friend of Simpson, IL; daughter-in-law, Shelly Hazel of Vienna, IL; brother, J.D. (Vera) Hazel of Simpson, IL; seven grandchildren, Mark Aly, Adrienne Gurley, Michael Friend, Curtis Maddox, Steven Hazel, Corey Hazel, Brody Hazel; seven great grandchildren, Ella Aly, Merrick Aly, McKenzie Maddox, Braxton Maddox, Lola Gurley, Gus Gurley, Tillie Gurley; several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine; infant daughter, Alpha; son, Clay Hazel; brother, Daryl Hazel.  Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Sunday, March 8, 2015 at Aly Funeral Home in Eddyville, IL. Masonic rites accorded by Eddyville Masonic Lodge #672 AF & AM at 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 9, 2015 at Aly Funeral Home in Eddyville, IL.  Rev. Mike Shearer will conduct the service.  Interment will follow at Eddyville Cemetery in Eddyville, IL. Military Honors will be conducted by the VFW Post 9227, American Legion Post 719, and the Scott Air Force Base Honor Guard  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pope Co.
