Obituary for Marie Shetler Walker
Marie Shetler Walker, 94, of Golconda, passed away September 7, 2016 in Pensacola, Florida. Visitation will be held at Aly Funeral Home Eddyville, Illlinois on September 10, 2016 from 1:00pm-3:00pm. Funeral service immediately following at 3:00pm with the Order of Eastern Star Eddyville, IL Chapter 1007 followed by Bro. Toby Williams officiating. Burial will follow at IOOF Cemetery in Golconda, IL.
Marie was born in Wood River, IL to Ed and Rella Shelter on January 18, 1922. She worked at The Farm Bureau and ASCS Office for many years. Marie was active throughout her life in the Eastern Stars,The Daughters of Rebekah ,and The Republican Woman. Her talent as a seamstress was shared over the years with her family and friends by crafting quilts and clothes. Along with her husband Alonzo, she kept a plentiful garden and field of sunflowers for many years. They also shared a love of fishing and would take yearly month-long vacations in Destin, Florida. Marie was also affectionately known for her sassy red hair, receiving compliments even on her last day. She is preceded in death by her daughter Sandra Sue Taylor, husband Alonzo Walker, parents Ed and Rella Shetler, brother Arthur Shetler, niece Judy Richardson, nephew Terry Broadway and nephew David Shetler. Leaving behind to cherish her memories are son Stephen Taylor and daughter in law Jill of Golconda. Stepson Harold (Karen) Walker of Golconda. Grandchildren; Bryan (Monina) Taylor of Birmingham, AL, Jenifer (Jerry) Suarez of Pensacola, FL, and Andrew (Danielle) Taylor of Gulf Breeze, FL. Great Grandchildren, Zach, Emi and Erycah Taylor, Jordan Suarez, Adam and Matlida Taylor. Special friend Gladys Threlkeld. There are many more family members and friends that she loved dearly.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or a charity of your choice. Condolences may be left in Marie's online guestbook at alyfh.com.
