Obituary for Ida Marie Warren

Ida Marie Warren, age 63, of Golconda, IL passed away Wednesday
morning, May 11, 2016 in the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Ida Marie was born in
Hardin County on Oct. 26, 1952 and had lived in Golconda most of her life. She had
been residing at the Fairview Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Du Quoin, IL since
Oct. 21, 2015, where she had made many new friends.
Ida Marie was baptized at the Sloan General Baptist Church in Harrisburg at a young age
after attending revival services there with her parents. She graduated from Pope County
High School, Golconda, IL. She attended SIU-Carbondale extension classes for a year
and earned a Teacher Aide Certification. She worked as a Teacher Aide in the Pope
County School system for a year. Because funding for the program was cut by the state
the following year, the program was, unfortunately, stopped by the school system. Ida
Marie spent the following years being a homemaker and showing her devotion to her
parents by providing dedicated home care services for them until they passed away.
Ida Marie gained a lot of pleasure from several activities: she taught herself how to
crochet and made beautiful decorative dresses for dolls, she was an excellent cook, she
had several television shows that she enjoyed watching such as an early TV series -
"Dark Shadows" with Jonathan Frid in the role of the gentleman vampire Barnabas
Collins, attending concerts where country music star Eddy Raven performed, attending
local celebrations such as the Hardin County Fluorspar Festival in Rosiclare, IL, and the
following activities in Golconda, including the Pope County Deer Festival, the Shrimp
Festival and the Fall Festival. She loved to shop at the various booths.
Ida Marie also loved to eat out at the Golden Corral in Marion, IL with her Uncle James
and to go shopping at Kohl's Department Store, looking for a new fashionable clothing
item. Her greatest joy was Gizmo, her gray cat, who spent time on her shoulder sleeping
while she watched television shows. Her greatest sadness was not being able to take
Gizmo with her to the Fairview Center.
Ida Marie is survived by her sister, Emma O'Brien-Joiner; a nephew Shawn O'Brien and
his wife Jennifer; a great-nephew Quaid O'Brien and a great-niece Madison Jeffers, all of
Suffix, VA, and an aunt, Sarah Doerner and cousin, Carlton Doerner of Du Quoin, IL.
Her parents Bandy and Grethel Warren of Golconda, IL, and her uncles, James Lowery
of Golconda, IL and Charles Lowery of Morganfield, KY, preceded Miss Warren in
death.
Memorials may be made to the Golconda Public Library.
