Obituary for Dorothy Lee Caldwell

Dorothy Lee Caldwell, 87 of the Rosebud Community Pope County, IL went into the arms of God on June 9, 2018. She was born in Harlan County, KY. She is survived by her children, Brenda Chayer-Billington (Danny) of Golconda, IL, Michael Caldwell of GA, Patti Cain of KY, Judy Rechammer (Mike) of St. Anne, IL, Tom Caldwell (Christy Eleam) of Golconda, Ronnie Caldwell of Golconda; two sisters, Juanita Sanford (Steve Montana) Diane Vonderheide of Golconda; one brother, Richard Owens (Ben) of TX.
She had eight children; two preceded her, twenty grandchildren, thirty nine great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren. She is also survived by a large number of nieces, nephews, and cousins; special family member Becky Derler.
She was preceded in death by her husband Homer Caldwell; parents, Earnest Owens, SR. and Goldie Owens; two sons, Don Shepherd, Robert Caldwell; five brothers, Ray Owens, Earnest Owens, JR., Steve Owens, Bob Owens; one sister, Eva Helen Selvey; 3 sons-in-law, Richard Chayer, Myron Schriefer, Dale Cain SR.; grandson, Homer Caldwell; great grandson, William Morris; daughter-in-law, Barbara Caldwell; very special friend, Pauline Carrera.
Dorothy was a member of the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church Rosebud Road Golconda. She was a volunteer at the “Not So New” resale shop, and Historical Museum in Golconda for many years. She was a school bus driver in St. Anne, IL for about 20 years. She loved to quilt, work in her garden (she had an amazing green thumb) and go to and have garage sales. Her biscuits and gravy were a specialty that was frequently requested by all her family.
Mom had a beautiful soul, those amazing blue eyes always radiating kindness, and a smile that was pure love, She gave HUGS to everyone, and was always ready to lend a helping hand. She made an impact on everyone with her sweetness, honesty, and upbeat personality. She was a person everyone was proud to know and call her a friend.
As per her request, cremation was respected. A memorial service will be 1:00pm on June 23, 2018 at Antioch Baptist Church in Rosebud. Bro. Kevin Richerson will conduct the service. Inurnment will be held at a later date. Visit alyfh.com to leave an online condolence or sign the guest book.
