Obituary for Curtis O. Broadway

Curtis O. Broadway, age 83, of Golconda, passed away at his home on Thursday, July 12, 2012.
Curtis was born in Raum, IL on December 27, 1928 to Harry and Alberta (Wagner) Broadway.   He married Phyllis Wardrop on March 9, 1952 in Corinth, MS.  She preceded him on October 7, 2001.   
Curtis and his wife Phyllis enjoyed traveling with their young children and camped extensively throughout the United States and Canada, and he continued traveling his entire life.  From a hobby that started in 1958, Curtis was a licensed amateur radio operator and his call number was K9QPV.  He also enjoyed woodworking and documenting historical events in Pope County through photographs.  Curtis had a good sense of humor and a good way with people.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church Golconda.  He was a former trustee and currently served the church as usher.  Curtis worked for the highway department building culverts in 1947-1948; he worked as parts and service manager for Kerley-Anderson from 1948-1960 and 1962-1967; he worked with Broadway and Kluge from 1960-1962; Broadway Sinclair from 1967-1969; and Anderson’s from 1969-1973.  He owned and operated Broadway Sales and Service with his sons from 1973 until his retirement in 1991.  Curtis was also a Civil Defense Coordinator in the late 1960’s. 
Curtis is survived by three sons, Bruce and MariEtta Broadway, Paul and Micki Broadway, Jon and Marsha Broadway, all of Golconda, IL; one daughter, Cheryl and Charles Cossey, Golconda, IL; eleven grandchildren, Mark Broadway, Brooke Buckman, Neil Broadway, Laura Staats, Leah Broadway, Adam Broadway, Brandon Broadway, Meagan Reed, Tim Broadway, Nathaniel Cossey, Karl Cossey; ten great grandchildren; companion, Elizabeth Walker Garcia, Golconda, IL; one brother, Joel (Marylou) Broadway, Vienna, IL; and one brother-in-law, Stephen Schoderbek, Albuquerque, NM.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded by two sisters-in-law, Wynette Gilliam and Marnie Schoderbek.

Funeral service will be Monday, July 16, 2012 at 11:00 am at the First United Methodist Church Golconda.  Pastor Cherrie Wilkerson will conduct the service.  Burial will follow at the IOOF Cemetery, Golconda, IL.  Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 9:00 pm on Sunday, July 15, 2012 at Aly Funeral Home, Golconda, IL.
