Obituary for Charles Henry Hughes
Charles Henry Hughes, 84 of Golconda, IL died March 7, 2018 at the Ray and Kay Eckstein Hospice Care Center in Paducah, KY.
Charles was born on July 25, 1933 to his parents, Henry and Velma (Pankey) Hughes in Harrisburg, IL. He was a member and Deacon of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church of Grantsburg, IL.
Charles is survived “by the Love of his Life” of 56 years, Shirley (Johnson) Hughes; his wonderful children, son Charles “Chuck” (Tonya) Hughes of Eddyville, IL; daughter Lisa (Chris) Walker of Golconda, IL; three marvelous grandchildren, Bennett (Kaley) Hughes, Hilary Hughes, Nicholas Alan Walker; two wonder great granddaughters, RaeLynn and Paisley Hughes; many nieces and nephews; sister-in-law; brother, Roy Lee Hughes.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents; younger brother, Michael L. Hughes; grandparents; sister-in-law.
Charles worked at many jobs. He retired from the State of Illinois Park Systems.
Charles wrote a song about “Golconda” which has been very popular. Then he got together “The Sounds of Pope County” which he donated the money to M*A*S*H of Pope County Cancer Fund. He loved to help people. Charles built boats “Charlie Boat”. He loved to stay busy. He loved to visit with the many campers that comes to his campground, Deer Run Campground.
Charles served in the ARMY during the Korean War. He loved his country and a true believer that everyone ought to love this country and always salute the flag.
Funeral services are 4:00 pm on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at Aly Funeral Home in Eddyville, IL. Bro. Les Chamberlain and Bro. Greg Hughes will officiate. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until time of service at the funeral home. Interment will be later at the Bradford Cemetery located south of Golconda on Bay City Road due to high water.
