Obituary for Carroll Calvin Bennett

Carroll Calvin Bennett, age 73, of rural Eddyville, IL, departed this life at 12:25 a.m. on Friday, March 6, 2015 at Baptist Health in Paducah, KY.
Carroll was born in Pope County on June 19, 1941, the only child of George and Mary (Holloway) Bennett.He attended school at Cedar Grove and graduated from Pope County High School in1958. Following graduation, Carroll, like many others at that time, left Pope County to find employment in northern Illinois. While working in Elgin, IL, he met the love of his life, Kay Collier, who was from Hardin County. Carroll and Kay were married on December 19, 1959 and had three children; Carl Dewayne (who died in infancy in 1961), Tonya Marie, and Sandra Dee.  In 1969, Carroll moved the family back to his childhood family farm in southern Illinois. Carroll worked as a carpenter and was well known for his carpentry skills, building and remodeling many, many homes, including homes for both his daughters.  For a short time he worked as a correctional officer but left that job to return to his passion of carpentry.

Carroll leaves behind his wife of 55 years, Kay; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tonya and Chuck Hughes, rural Eddyville, and Sandra and Darrell Cowsert, Golconda; four grandchildren, Delaney Cowsert and fiance Aaron Hall, Bennett Hughes and fiance Kaley Turpen, Destaney Cowsert, Hilary Hughes; and one great-grandchild, Raelynn Marie.
Carroll was a member of both the Cedar Grove Social Brethren Church and Eddyville Masonic Lodge 672 for over fifty years.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at Aly Funeral Home in Eddyville, IL; beginning with masonic rites accorded by Eddyville Masonic Lodge 672 AF & AM.  Rev. Randy Vaughn will conduct the service. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of service.  A private burial at Cedar Grove Social Brethren Church Cemetery will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Cedar Grove Church Cemetery, c/o Scotty Hargrove, 146 State Hwy 145 S., Grantsburg, IL 62943.
