Obituary for Barbara Humm
Barbara Treece Humm, age 90, of Golconda passed away September 11, 2014 at Carrier Mills Nursing Home in Carrier Mills, Illinois.
Barbara was born, Barbara Anne Treece, July 19, 1924 in Anna, Illinois, the younger daughter of Clyde Meshew Treece and Claude Clinton Treece.
October 19, 1955 Barbara married Herman Cletus “Babe” Humm. She and Babe observed their 50th Anniversary at the Cathedral of St. Jude in St. Petersburg, Florida with a Jubilee Mass celebrated by Bishop Robert Lynch.
She was a manager at Pearl Motor Company in Anna and Jim Pearl Chevrolet in Vienna. After one month of marriage Babe and Barbara purchased the Ford Dealership in Golconda and operated it as Babe Humm Ford Sales until 1969 when they moved to Clearwater, Florida where they operated their own real estate agency. After retirement they traveled extensively. At times they spent summers in their homes in Eureka Springs, Arkansas and Franklin, North Carolina.
In 1985 Barbara was knighted into the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. This order is the highest Papal award that can be conferred on clergy and laity alike. She carries the title of Lady Barbara T. Humm.
Survivors include two nieces, Karen H. Cloyd of Wildwood, Missouri and Sue Anne Smith of Lake Mary, Florida. Also included are three grand nieces: Amanda Jean Evans of St. Charles, MO, Stephanie Erin Smith and Brooke Elizabeth Smith, both of Brooklyn, NY. Barbara was also survived by three generations of nieces and nephews from the Humm side of her family whom she loved dearly and by whom she was loved.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elizabethtown, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one sister, Jean T. Holshouser.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on September 14, 2014 with a rosary service at 7:00 p.m. at Aly Funeral Home, Golconda. The funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 15, 2014 at St Joseph Catholic Church in Elizabethtown with Father Abraham officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Elizabethtown.
