Obituary for Angela Lynette Elam Nicol
Angela Lynette Elam Nicol, age 58, of Golconda, IL passed away December 26, 2019 at her residence.
She was born April 27, 1961 to Stanley and Dawn (Williams) Elam in Paducah, KY.
Angie grew up on the farm, she would follow her dad outside and was beside him in everything he did. She loved all the livestock and especially the horses. Starting at the young age of five she would crawl up on anything handy to get on the back of a horse. After high school she went to the Animal Science Institute in Miami, FL for a 3 month course to be a veterinary assistant. Angie always wanted to work in Lexington. KY with thoroughbred race horses and she got to do that in 1982 when she handled an affirmed triple crown winner, Gato del Dol. However, her aspirations were cut short at the age of 22 due to a near death automobile accident which she was a passenger on her way home from work. After 3 months in the hospital Angie was left severely crippled. While at home recuperating, nothing to do and bored Angie decided to go to college and earned an associate degree in business while still on crutches. That career path didn’t last long because it required to be inside all day. Angie decided to stay home and raise her horses and livestock instead. She had a special way with the horses and always looked forward every year to go to the 9 Day Trail Ride . Even though she couldn’t ride much she still wanted to be a part of it as she had done since she was young.
Angie is survived by her mother, Dawn (Williams) Elam; brother, Joe Elam; former husband, Chuck Nicol.
She was preceded in death by her father, Stanley Elam; sister in law, Jeanne Ann Elam.
